Some photographs of IU in Japan have got fans talking.

On the January 28th, photos of IU in Japan appeared on an online community under a thread titled, “IU in Asakusa, Toori no Still Cut”. The photographs showed a girlish and innocent IU as she enjoyed herself in Japan. In one picture, IU can be seen posing with a sand writing she did saying, “IU desu!” (“I’m IU!”).

Netizens revealed all sorts of different reactions. “Have fun in Japan!”, “I couldn’t tell if this was gravure or not,” and “The more I look at these, the more charming you become”.

[TL Note: Gravure is a popular industry in Japan. It can vary from normal photoshoots, to bikini shoots. Basically, gravure tends to be high quality photos of women that are professionally taken. I can’t really explain it well in English since…gravure is gravure ^^;]

gravure models are usually based on their sexual appeal though... and none of these pictures are very alluring in that way... I could understand if IU was wearing a school girl outfit or maid outfit, but.... ah, well. maybe they mean like ulzzang...

lol I read the title and was kinda suprised...gravure tend to refer to pictures that are....arousing? in nature. Even if thats not the way its meant to be interpreted, its usually taken that way.

I can see what they mean! I was confused for a split second because I do tend to associate 'gravure' with photos more on the 'bikini shoots' end of the spectrum, but I understand, now. The pictures look so cute! I've really liked them since I first saw them, she looks like she was having so much fun and her style always amazes me.

Yeah, I mostly associate the word "gravure" with bikini photo shoots, since I've been a fan of some Japanese idol groups before for a long time. Still a fan of one now, come to think of it. And then I looked up the definition of "gravure" on Wikipedia, and it got me VERY confused... (It was talking about the quality of how the image is produced or something like that.)

But anyways, IU looks so cute in these pics! And I wonder if that's a Polaroid camera she's holding... (in the top right pic)

I think what it means is the photos or she looks so great in all the photos, that it almost looks like a pro/magazine quality pictures? Because they indeed look great.LOL
