WeHeartIU 2012 Staff Recruitment

WeHeartIU has grown a lot over the last year. With IU's comeback in the last few months and now her Japanese activities, our very small staff team needs some more help to stay on top of all the updates.

We have a wide range of positions available, each with different requirements. If you'd like to contribute to IU's international fan community, take a look below and see if you think you'd be suitable for any of the roles.

Please note: we never have open recruitment for moderator positions. We pick moderator candidates from active forum members who we think would be suited to the job.

Also, we only recruit (for any role) people who we think will fit into our existing staff team. Staff all invest a lot of our free time into WHI and none of us want to have to deal with dramas arising from personality clashes. Please don't be offended if we don't recruit you for this reason - maintaining a happy staff is essential for WHI to stay in existence.

For all roles, the following are essential:

• Be highly self-motivated and active. We expect all staff to do their jobs without having to be chased.
  
• Have a Twitter account (and frequently monitor it), as this is our primary method of communication.
  
• Be a big IU fan, obviously!

Korean and Japanese translators - Recruiting now!

Translators are responsible for bringing WeHeartIU members the latest news and interviews, as well as helping them to understand IU's many TV appearances through translated video. And of course, they also translate IU's fancafe and me2day posts, and tweets by her staff or other Korean celebrities.

Translators must:

• Be fluent in both written and spoken Korean or Japanese as we will ask you to work on both articles and videos.
  
• Have a high standard of written English.
  
• Be regularly active and available to translate rapidly and at short notice (especially for fancafe/me2day posts and news articles).
  
• Be able to navigate Korean news portal and community sites to find the latest IU updates (we can recommended good sources).

Photo uploaders - Recruiting now!

With IU's huge popularity, there are new photo updates every day, and some events produce several hundred fanphotos. A photo uploader's job is to save these photos from Korean sources, upload them to ImageShack (as well as making a zip if there are a large number of photos), and post on WHI as quickly as possible. They are also responsible for helping to upload old pictures to our gallery.

Photo uploaders must:

• Be online every day, preferably at several times throughout the day, to post photo updates.
  
• Understand how to create zip files and upload to MediaFire.
  
• Be able to follow instructions for downloading HQ photos from Korean sites (involves manipulating text files and using the DownThemAll Firefox extension).

Video uploaders - Recruiting now!

Video uploading is not just about sourcing videos from Korean sites and torrents, you also need to know how to re-encode them to other formats. We are perfectionists about quality at WHI, so we won't settle for sub-standard encodes (which includes many of the MKV/AVI versions you'll find on Korean torrent sites).

Video uploaders must:

• Have a fast internet connection, both download and upload. 4Mbps is the very minimum upload spead required.
  
• Be able to download from Korean torrents at good speed. Most raw videos are distributed via torrent.
  
• Know how (and be able) to upload to MediaFire and Rapidshare.
  
• Be experienced in the use of Avisynth, MeGUI and VirtualDub to encode raw MPEG TS videos to MKV x264 and AVI XviD formats. This is essential, if you do not know what Avisynth is or how to use it please do not apply.

Screentext timers/typesetters - Recruiting now!

Almost all Korean TV shows include some form of screentext, which we often translate for our Mashimello Subs releases. A screentexter's job is to take the raw translations, time them against the video, and style the text to match the Korean text as closely as possible.

Screentexters must:

• Know how to use Aegisub to transform plain text translations into styled screentext.
  
• Be able to select suitable fonts to match the look of the hangul text.
  
• Show evidence of prior screentexting work. We are only looking for experienced applicants, we cannot train you.

Well you need to learn how to download all the pictures from a page (so you don't have to save them one at a time). There are certain steps to follow, as long as you're a windows user, there should be no problem

wow.. i was waiting for this for so long.. I don't even know if I'm fully qualified in any field fully.. I know some Japanese but yet.. I can't say I'm fluent to be honest. I can do some translations for sure though.. Sometimes I notice WHI needs help uploading and then in the end, you guys even beat me in uploading the video on time (like late uploads by chelupa). Since I'm on campus, torrenting may be an issue as well. Please help me recommend a role I can take in. Photo Uploaders seem like something I know pretty well to be honest. @Matt any recommendations? I know how to download raw performances but am not good at encoding the files. (my internet speed may also be the problem).

I believe this is on going until they decide~ so yeah WHI needs help so all of you guys who are able to do these kinds of things and are able to dedicate that time, I hope u guys can help . Especially with translating & UPLOADING^^

for screen text timer, i just had 2weeks before entering university.
i'm afraid that there no internet at collage to downloads raw videos but they promise to setting internet after entering collage.
i'm using broadband but to downloads raw videos is limited.
can i still apply?

Squishyblob posts links to the pages where you need to get the photos from. You just have to follow some steps exactly in order to get the higher quality versions of the pictures. And you better not be a noob at computers

how i wish i can be permanent staff of WHI. but too bad there's merely nothing i can give help here.
i am certainly seeking for video editing job. but somehow, i am not good enough on that and currently still on learning.
i also try to be video uploader but too bad i got poor internet connection. how upsetting!
i also learning Korean by myself currently. so yeah, not good enough to be a translator.

so, i will certainly get back to this thread looking for job when i am ready. >< mianh~
